In 2015, we are more connected.
We have social media, smartphones, and tablets.
As teenagers, we use this technology 24/7, 265 days a year.
It has its privileges, but it has its demands.
Using social media, we've become less social.
More familiar with a screen than a face.
We use social media to become invisible,
dealing punches behind a desk where no one can see you.
Our technology's advancing, but we're going back
to a time with no human interaction.
We're dependent on technology, searching for bars and WiFi wherever we go.
Conversations are digital, always looking down, not up.
Words are exchanged, but just beeps and clicks can be heard.
We're a generation obsessed with sex and technology,
a combination destined for disaster.
We're both solitary, yet in groupchats, in Google circles, yet silent.
This needs to be fixed, society needs a reboot.
Pretty soon we'll have lives dominated by tech,
no more phones in our hands but little chips in our heads,
telling friends where we are all the time.
The human need to stay connected will overcome,
we will no longer be without bars in tunnels,
we will be able to see each other's faces even when we're miles away.
This may seem like a miracle for us,
but look at the bigger picture.
We take pictures of food at restaurants,
instead of concentrating on our romantic dates.
We have conversations with each other through text,
when we're only a few feet from each other.
Television is dominated by sex and violence,
children are playing First-Person Shooters,
and advertisements are telling everyone that they aren't perfect just the way they are right now.
We need a release, something that will take everything away.
But, somehow, we'll still have that urge.
It needs to be stopped. We need to recollect on days where technology wasn't here every day.
Evolution of technology needs to take a few steps back.
We all need a reboot, for we are all part of a system that plagues our lives.
Society needs a reboot, so turn off your phone for a change.
I had a bit of a rant while writing this. I actually added more just now. It was supposed to end at the line "this needs to be fixed, society needs a reboot." but it didn't sound finished to me. So, I added more. I hope you agree with my arguments and go technology-free for a while. It's really nice not having to have a constant distraction in your life. You learn to appreciate the world around you than you did before.
